Alphonse TAVAN created the Felibrige with 6 other poet friends. He was born in 1833 in the city of Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne.(Vaucluse), where he'll die on May 12th 1905

Farmer without any education except the one he got in the small city school, he was wrote poetry while he was cultivating the lands.

He published his funny and melancholic poetries en 1876 : "Amour e Plour".

His verses were soon noticed by readers and ,as he was invited by his neighbour Paul Giéra, he attended to meetings of small groups of provencal poets.

Under the pretext of celebrating the end of his military service, the meeting of May 21st 1854 was organised in the castle of Font Ségugne and the Felibrige created.
